Wenn man einem kaputten Gebrauchsgegenstand durch eine Reparatur zu einem längeren Leben verhilft, dann ist das nachhaltig. Doch was wenn die Reparatur preislich den Wert des Gegenstands übersteigt?

Dann ist das zuerst einmal nicht besonders wirtschaftlich, kann aber dennoch nachhaltig sein. Denn werfe ich ihn weg und kaufe dafür einen neuen Gegenstand, werden Energie sowohl für Entsorgung des alten, als auch für Produktion des neuen aufgewendet. Vom eventuellen emotionalen Wert den man mit einem Gegenstand verbinden kann, mal ganz abgesehen. Daher ist es ratsam, beim Kauf eines Gebrauchsgegenstands darauf zu achten, wie qualitativ und reparaturfreundlich er ist. Dann investiert man vielleicht etwas mehr, hat aber auch länger etwas davon oder kann es noch verkaufen, wenn man ihm doch überdrüssig geworden ist. „Das kann ich mir nicht leisten“ höre ich manchmal. Aber kannst du dir billig leisten? Immer und immer wieder? Denn in der Summe ist es am Ende deutlich mehr. Und der billige Müll muss auch noch entsorgt werden.
